1. Email is sent from a user on the Internet. The mail server performs a MX record lookup and sends the email to one of our many email filtering servers.

2. Email traverses our firewall and goes into a filtering server.

3. Email is scanned for viruses, spam, malformed headers, and phishing attacks.

4. If your email server is unavailable, we will queue your email for up to one week.

5. Email is then forwarded to your email server.

6. Email once again traverses our firewall on its way back to you.

7. Email reaches your email server. The total process takes about 10 seconds.

This process protects your email server from most attacks, while reducing bandwidth normally wasted by this server if it is unprotected.
